Philmont provides a gear list on their website but that's all it is - a list. Backpack - what kind? Osprey? Kelty? Wool or fleece hat for cold temps. In August? Really?!?! (The answer is an emphatic YES by the way.)
Here we'll share what we have learned from our experience at Philmont and other high adventure camps. The gear list is based off of Philmont's guidelines but will work for many other high adventure activities. If we have a favorite we will list specific products and items that have worked well and links to places you can buy those products.
We don't claim to be the ultimate experts, just folks who have been able to go see what works and find out sometimes what doesn't! We'll share what we learned in hopes it will make your treks more enjoyable.
Our scout families are all on a budget so you won't see us listing off all the highest price fanciest gear money can buy. We look for the best bang for our buck. Sometimes that means you have to pay more, sometimes we find a cheap alternative.
Feel free to email with comments and watch our blog for specific product reviews from time to time.
